JEAN TOURY'S NIGHTSHIRT (2021)
A French Resistance fighter perished in a German concentration camp. His nightshirt survived and made its way to America with his granddaughter, eventually ending up for sale at the Santa Cruz Flea Market, where I found it. After learning pieces of his story, I embroidered the vital statistics of his life and death.

Nine cloth layers recovered from an old wooden ironing board reveal rhythms of care and attention, and moments of calamity and loss.

TOGETHER APART, MORE OR LESS (2022)
This hanging scroll, handwoven from deconstructed silk neckties in the Japanese weaving tradition, Sakiori, narrates the trajectory of a long relationship. The four panels record a dialogue of opposition, contrast, integration and embrace.

BACKPAD (2021)
Twined backpad, made from strips of salvaged men’s dressed shirts, borrowing from the Japanese folk textile Bandori. Traditionally used to cushion the back when carrying bundles, this translation speaks to the weight we carry in daily life.
